A total of 273
different species of fish have been reported in the REEF.ORG database
for the 23 major dive sites surrounding Jupiter, Florida.

The Lighthouse
Ledge dive site has the single greatest diversity of fish for any dive
site located between Cape Canaveral and Jupiter Inlet. 179 species of
fish from 49 different fish families have been reported.

Lemon Shark
sightings are more frequently sighted in Jupiter, Florida than
anywhere in the entire tropical Western Atlantic region according to
the REEF Database.

Goliath
Grouper sightings are more frequent sighted in Jupiter, Florida than
any location on the Florida East coast according to REEF data.

The top 10
Jupiter reefs for fish sightings include: Lighthouse Ledge (179
species), Juno Ledge (168 species), Captain Kuirle (160 species),
Scarface (145 species), Area 51 (144 species), The Bluffs (137
species), Loggerhead (137 species), Hole in the Wall (127 species),
Spadefish Point (126 species), and Mike's Reef (122 species).

The top
artificial reef in the Jupiter area is the MG-111 barge which can have
both Lemon Shark to the Northwest Goliath on the East side. 140
different species of fish comprising 38 fish families have been
sighted.

The top 10
encountered fish species in the Jupiter area are: Porkfish (89%),
Bluehead Wrasse (88%), Bicolor Damselfish (83%), Reef Butterfly Fish
(81%), Spanish Hogfish (78%), Blue Tang (76%), Yellowhead Wrasse
(76%), Spotted Goatfish (75%), Doctorfish (75%), and Red Band
Parrotfish (72%).

Included in
the top 100 routine species sightings are the Nurse Shark, Green Moray
Eel, Queen Angelfish, Great Barracuda, Hog Fish, Mahogany Snapper,
Mutton Snapper, Black Grouper, Greater Amberjack, and Sheepshead.

Four different
species of sea turtles including the Loggerhead, Hawksbill, Green and
Leatherback have also been observed on the Jupiter Reefs.

Local sunken
ships including the Esso Bonaire wreck and the USS Rankin have
abundant fish life, The Esso Bonaire has 122 species of fish reported
and the deeper USS Rankin has 48 species of fish reported.

square miles.
