Professional Dive Boat Captain
The captain is responsible for providing a safe and enjoyable experience for all divers and maintains the daily dive schedule by ensuring engine pre-checks and maintenance are completed prior to the charter. In accordance with Coast Guard regulations, captains conduct boat manifest roll calls and deliver safety briefings. Captains also must be able to safely set divers on proper dive site coordinates to provide a satisfying dive experience.
You’ll need your 50-ton captain’s license and Marine Radio Operators Permit. There is a lot of leadership and responsibility required of this position, but the view from your office is great!
Payment is weekly.
Qualifications
- Possess a 50-ton captain’s license and Marine Radio Operators Permit
- Be customer service-oriented
- Be in good standing (no recorded ethics violations or quality assurance issues) with the Coast Guard
- Have experience in scuba diving and knowledge of diving techniques
- Possess an overall understanding of general vessel maintenance
- Possess excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
- Must be willing and able to work in a collaborative setting with a diverse group of coworkers and guests
Responsibilities include
- Customer service
- Maintaining the dive schedule by ensuring engine pre-checks and maintenance are completed in a timely manner
- Manage the crew while at the dock and at sea
- Overall ability and understanding to complete general vessel maintenance, which includes oil changes, painting, yard work when hauled, etc.
- Organize deck/diver seating for dives and position dive tanks in the correct locations
- The ability to work a flexible schedule that includes weekends, nights, and holidays
- Conduct a manifest roll call and safety briefing
- Set divers on the correct coordinates for an optimal dive experience
- Ensure First aid, AED, and O2 kits are in proper working conditions
- Carry customer gear and rental gear. Lift and carry tanks to and from the boat (up to 60 tanks per day)
- Boat stocking & cleaning
- Additional responsibilities as directed
