Summer’s here—and the Ocean Awaits!

Summer is Here

Summer’s here—and the Ocean Awaits!

Summer vacation doesn’t have to be a thing of the past—and we know just the place to visit. Jupiter, Florida! Imagine it: warm water, pristine reefs, exciting wrecks. Jupiter has something for every scuba diving enthusiast—and plenty for the non-divers in the family, too! Jupiter Dive Center is happy to announce we’re open for diving and we’ve taken considerable steps to ensure your vacation is safe and fun.

FUN FACT: Jupiter, Florida has warm water, tons of marine life, & healthy coral reefs. #JupiterSummer

Let’s start with the reef. A portion of the third largest barrier reef in the world runs parallel to the coast just a few miles from shore, providing a home to colorful tropical fish as well as a tremendous diversity of other marine life. It’s also part of a greater ecosystem that draws in larger pelagic animals.

Because of the proximity of the Gulf Stream, all of Jupiter Dive Center’s dives are drift dives, which allows divers to see more than you ever imagined as the current carries you along. At the end of the dive, the boat comes to you!

Looking for a wreck? We’ve got three on one dive when you dive our famed Wreck Trek. Look for goliath groupers who love to hang out in the large nooks and crannies of the Zion Train, Miss Jenny, and the Esso Bonaire. (And if you’ve never seen one of these gentle goliaths, their size can be a bit surprising. Imagine a VW Bug underwater!)

FUN FACT: Few places have more sea turtles in the water than Jupiter, Florida during nesting season.  #JupiterSummer

Centrally located on the Atlantic Coast, Jupiter, Florida is a premier destination with fabulous diving—and perfect for those who don’t want to gamble on making airline reservations. Our waterfront shop is easy to reach by major highways. Even better, we are a one-stop location with our boats mere steps from the store! Hotels are open and we can recommend several in the area that give our divers a special rate.

Safety is our highest priority—and we’ve adjusted some of our procedures to meet the challenges presented by the coronavirus. While restrictions may change at any time, our charters are currently limited to eight divers to comply with group gathering guidelines on deck. This also means reservations are highly recommended as our boats are selling out quickly.

Our safety precautions extend to our boats and crew as well. Our crew will be wearing gloves anytime they handle gear or tanks. The deck hand will be wearing gloves as divers get on and off the boat. A hose with fresh water will be available to rinse gear to avoid mixing multiple divers’ gear in rinse buckets.  On board, rails, benches and decks will be thoroughly cleaned before each charter. We are closely following the State guidelines and our policies and procedures may change as new guidelines are implemented or eased.

FUN FACT: Goliath groupers return to Jupiter, Florida to spawn. #JupiterSummer

Our check-in procedures are new. In a nutshell, we are doing as much as we can in advance regarding payment and gear rental so we can sanitize and prepare things before you even arrive at the shop. Once here, you will see our entrance and exits are designated to help the flow of people in the shop where you need to check in and sign waivers. Please note, you must bring your certification cards. If you need a replacement, we’d be happy to order one for you, but this must be completed before the day of the charter. Seats on the boat will be assigned. The new procedures take a little bit more time, so please arrive promptly for check-in: 8:00a.m. for morning boats and 12:30p.m. for afternoon charters. To familiarize yourself with all of the procedures, click on our Temporary Procedures for Boat Charters link.

JUPITER, FLORIDA: Close to home, and a world away!

Summer is an exciting time to dive in Jupiter, Florida—and it’s a great place to take a fun and safe summer vacation! Sea turtles are already nesting and hang around until October. Goliath groupers are here year-round but their numbers skyrocket during August and September when they aggregate to spawn. You can catch your own lobster dinner during Florida’s July mini-season (or wait for the regular season to open in August). There’s even the occasional whale shark, hammerhead sharks, and manta rays that cruise through during warm months. So what are you waiting for? Dive in, the water’s fine! Call Jupiter Dive Center, today.

Travel Lineup 2019 and Beyond

Travel Lineup 2019 and Beyond
Divers are some of the most well traveled people. Why? Divers enjoy exploring areas above and below the waterline. Jupiter Dive Center understands. We also know that planning a dive vacation can be daunting. That’s why we do it for you—and here’s what we have planned.

Solomon Islands, October 14-25, 2019
The walls, reefs, pinnacles, and coral gardens of Solomon Islands support an amazing variety of sea creatures—from small reef dwellers to large pelagic marine animals. Popular with underwater photographers, “muck dives” reveal small and unusual critters such as Manta shrimp, ghost pipefish, pygmy seahorses and more.

This trip includes 10 nights accommodation, up to 5 dives a day, meals and snacks.

Add on Fiji! You’re already in the region, why not make your dream of diving in Fiji come true. Stay an additional three nights at Treasure Island and you can add on three more 2-tank charters.

Truk Lagoon May 9-16, 2020
Join us as we travel with Odyssey Adventures  to see the ghost fleet of Truk Lagoon. Often cited as the best shipwreck destination in the world, this location offers a glimpse into history. Many divers go merely for the wrecks, but the area is also home to vivid tropical fishes, anemones, sponges, and larger marine life. On this trip, divers can choose to dive on their own or with experienced local guides for a truly memorable experience.

This 7-night live-aboard trip includes six days of diving—and divers can dive up to five times each day. The price includes nitrox (for those divers with enriched air certifications), meals and snacks.

Little Cayman June 13-20, 2020
Little Cayman is a perennial favorite, but you have to book fast—our 2019 trip sold out quickly. Why is it so popular? One reason is the Bloody Bay wall—a pristine underwater site rated as the best diving in the Caribbean by National Geographic. But that’s only the beginning. Seventeen boat dives, an optional day trip to Cayman Brac, concierge diving with Reef Divers, and lodging and meals at Little Cayman Reef Resort make experience a holiday many of our divers return to year after year.

A word about insurance
There is a difference between dive insurance, which covers the diver, and travel insurance, which covers the trip. (Here’s a post that explains  more about travel insurance.) Jupiter Dive Center requires that traveling divers have DAN dive insurance or similar insurance to cover any dive-related health emergency. While not compulsory, travel insurance is highly recommended.

Ready to embark on your next adventure? The hardest decision is deciding where.  After that, Jupiter Dive Center will take care of the rest. Call us today at 561-745-7807.

We finish our adventure in Vienna as we step back in time to the Age of the Empires on our guided tour of the city. Fans of Gustav Klimt will enjoy the largest collection of the artist’s paintings inside the Belvedere Palace. Outside the palace, its impressive gardens beckon. Additional sites include the opera house, museums, and the grand Hofburg Palace. Finally, share a farewell dinner on the last night with all your new friends and fellow travelers.

The Importance of Travel Insurance

You’ve finally done it. It’s been on your bucket list since you first became certified to dive and you’ve booked your dream dive vacation. You’ve counted down the days and now it’s the night before you’re supposed to embark on your holiday. Only there’s a problem: you’re sick, the tour company went belly up, you had a family emergency, or any other event that is going to keep you from your vacation.

Now what? The answer depends on whether or not you booked travel insurance and if it covers your particular problem.

Open Water Classroom

Do Your Due Diligence

Not all insurance travel policies are created equal, nor do they universally cover all eventualities that impact a holiday. Some policies are meant to assist with medical issues experienced on vacation—more on that in a bit. Other policies cover cancellations due to a provider going out of business or if transport to the destination causes you to miss the event. Still other policies cover evacuation due to a natural disaster or political unrest. Some even reimburse the cost of replacement clothing if you end up in your destination, but your luggage doesn’t.

Do You Need Travel Insurance?

Again, it depends. While peace of mind is often reason enough to purchase travel insurance, no one wants to toss away money on a policy that isn’t needed. Depending on the policy, the coverage may be extremely limited—making it difficult to collect on a claim. And while routine medical issues may be covered by one’s regular medical insurance, mishaps that occur during adventure sports such as scuba diving most likely won’t be covered without additional coverage.

Traveling with Jupiter Dive Center

We love to travel and have several adventures already planned for 2019, including Dunbar Rock in Honduras, Little Cayman Island, and the Solomon Islands. We’ve done our homework, visited the resorts, and made all the arrangements so you don’t have to deal with the hassle. Over the years, we’ve learned that travel insurance is a really good idea.

Our adventures take place across the globe, and Jupiter Dive Center highly recommends trip insurance that at the least covers cancellation and weather-related issues.

We require our travelers to be a member of DAN.  Divers Alert Network has been serving scuba divers for thirty years and provides emergency assistance, medical information, resources, education, and best of all—peace of mind. Dive accident insurance (and optional gear coverage) is only one aspect of this non-profit agency.  Even if you aren’t traveling with us, becoming a member of DAN is something you should consider.

Here are a few scuba diving medical and travel insurance options to explore:

Why Your Next Dive Vacation Should Be With Jupiter Dive Center

Why Your Next Dive Vacation Should Be With Jupiter Dive Center

Divers are explorers, so it’s no surprise that they like to travel, too. So why travel with Jupiter Dive Center when you could strike out on your own? We’re glad you asked….

Before you became a diver, had you heard of Raja Ampat? How about the Bloody Bay Wall? Jupiter Dive Center knows all about these places, because we’ve been there. We’ve done the research, visited the resorts, and spoken to the dive operators we’ll be using. In short, we’ve done our homework and made all the arrangements, so you don’t have to.

Has it been a while since your last dive? We’re in the water with you. New divers in particular often feel more comfortable diving with a group. And a dive vacation allows you to dial in your skills and increase your confidence.  With advanced notice, we can even arrange various certification courses.

Traveling with Jupiter Dive Center will introduce you to other divers who share your passion for the ocean.  You can interact with the group as little or as much as you chose when traveling with us.

We always recommend travel insurance, because while we take care of all the arrangements, occasionally life intrudes and you may need to alter your plans.  One thing we do require is that all divers have DAN insurance (and really, that’s something you should obtain as soon as you are certified).

We believe in choices, and every year we offer a variety of trips. Ready to book your dive vacation? Check out the teasers below and follow the links for more information. Most of the divers who travel with us come back again and again.

Mark Your Calendar!

First up is Raja Ampat October 28-November 14, 2018. The vacation starts at Gangga Island Resort. The island is surrounded by a variety of marine life with rare species and pristine reefs in North Sulawesi. Then we transfer to the live-aboard dive boat, Gaia Love and spend the next week in the crystal clear waters of Raja Ampat.

Perhaps island living is more to your liking? Say, in a villa? If so, Dunbar Rock Honduras March 30- April 6, 2019, is the dream vacation for you.

Join us June 8-15, 2019 when we return to Little Cayman for what is quickly becoming an annual trip. You know it’s got to be good if National Geographic rates an area as the best diving in the Caribbean. Bloody Bay Wall’s has been designated as a marine park, and it’s—if you’ll pardon the pun—breathtaking.

October 15 – 25, 2019, you’ll find us in the Solomon Islands. Walls, reefs, pinnacles, and coral gardens await. If ten nights isn’t long enough, you can start the vacation earlier by adding three nights in Fiji October 11-14.

We’ll be adding even more adventures to our calendar in the coming months. Book early, as our trips routinely sell out. All it takes is a deposit, and all you need is your sense of adventure!!

What are you waiting for? Come diving with Jupiter Dive Center!

Scuba Dive in Raja Ampat

Join Jupiter Dive Center on a trip to Indonesia October 28 through November 14, 2018 and scuba dive in Raja Ampat. Nestled in the coral triangle between Papua New Guinea, Timor, and the Philippines, this Indonesian archipelago dots what is arguably the most biodiverse marine ecosystem in the world.

 The Diving

The crystal-clear waters that surround Raja Ampat Islands are home to many marine species found nowhere else. Imagine coming face-to-face with an electric-blue giti damselfish, photographing a jamal dottyback, or spying a colorful cuttlefish. Don’t forget about the pygmy seahorses—they like to hide in the gorgonian corals. Looking for something bigger? Watch for the manta rays and wobbegong sharks. The adventure doesn’t stop when the sun sets, either. At dusk, divers are treated to the enchanting courtship ritual of the Mandarinfishes. Finish with a night dive and meet a whole new cast of colorful characters.

The Gangga Island Resort

The adventure begins at the Gangga Island Resort in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. Surrounded by lush tropical trees, the resort sits on the edge of a white sand beach. After diving with Gangga Divers, a 5-star PADI Dive Center, take a dip in the large salt-water infinity pool or relax in the traditional spa. Two open-air restaurants serve regional cuisine. Finish your evening with a cocktail in the full bar. After all, the time you spend topside should be every bit as amazing as your time underwater.

The Gaia Love

The second leg of the trip transports us to sea, where we’ll spend 8 nights on the luxury live-aboard dive boat Gaia Love. The boat accommodates 22 guests (11 air-conditioned en-suite rooms) and sports four decks that house a lounge, restaurant, and dedicated camera room. The spacious dive deck makes entering the water a snap.
