Lionfish Awareness November 23
Lionfish; beautiful to look at, painful to touch, harmful to our reef’s ecosystem. Join Jupiter Dive Center and learn the facts about this invasive species and why we need to control its population. Then put your newfound knowledge to use during a 2-tank dive!
The Fun Part
Did you know that in addition to being beautiful, lionfish are quite tasty? Do your part to keep this invasive species from overrunning our reefs and catch dinner all on the same dive!
What to Expect
This course starts in the classroom where students will learn general information about lionfish, including their habitat, prey, predators, and the damage they are causing in the Atlantic Ocean. In the ongoing effort to eradicate the species, proper shooting techniques, safe handling, and diver safety will be discussed.
Jupiter Dive Center will provide lunch, and then students will go out on the afternoon 2-tank charter with their instructor. Divers will focus on locating lionfish and how to properly and safely eradicate them.
