Lionfish; beautiful to look at, painful to touch, harmful to our reef’s ecosystem. Join Jupiter Dive Center and learn the facts about this invasive species and why we need to control its population. Then put your newfound knowledge to use during a 2-tank dive!
Did you know that in addition to being beautiful, lionfish are quite tasty? Do your part to keep this invasive species from overrunning our reefs and catch dinner all on the same dive!
What to Expect
This course starts in the classroom where students will learn general information about lionfish, including their habitat, prey, predators, and the damage they are causing in the Atlantic Ocean. Proper shooting techniques, safe handling, and diver safety will be discussed in the ongoing effort to eradicate the species.
What Do You Need?
All Jupiter Dive Center charters are drift dives, and each diver must have their own surface marker buoy and a dive computer. Enriched Air and advanced open water certification are required. Students wishing to hunt lionfish during the two dives must provide their own equipment. Spear, keeper, gloves, knife, and shears. This course is open to any certified diver over 18 years of age.
Divers must present their Advanced Open Water and Nitrox certification cards at check-in.
- Students meet at Jupiter Dive Center at 10:30 a.m.
- Bring Lunch
- Divers must present their scuba diving certification card at check-in.
- All divers must have a surface marker buoy and a dive computer.
- Required equipment for this course: Spear, keeper, gloves, knife, and shears.
- The course includes materials, instruction, a 2-tank charter, and a specialty certification card.
- Gear and tanks are not included.
