The Safari

A Zambezi river cruise, guided game park drives, great food, huge tented rooms with western style facilities, a small pool to cool down after a full day and a fully stocked bar to ease into the evening—all combine to create a once-in-a-lifetime African adventure. And then there are the animals: hippos, crocodiles, myriad birds, African elephants, and more!

Day 10: 

Today marks the start of the safari with a short regional flight to Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe. Once there, you’ll secure your visas at the airport. Stay at the Cresta Spray View where you will be picked up at 4:00p.m. for a 2-hour cruise on the Zambezi River – watch the sun set and enjoy a drink while you look for wildlife along the banks. Enjoy dinner on your own in town, before returning to the Cresta Spray View for the night.

Day 11: 

Take a morning shuttle to the glorious Victoria Falls. Return to the hotel by noon, to catch the transfer to the train station at Dete where travellers will board the classic Stimela Star and ride toward Hwange National Park through the exotic bush landscape to its destination southwest of Victoria Falls. Dinner and sundowners are served on board. Enjoy a comfortable sleeper cabin overnight.

Day 12: 

Wake up to coffee or tea and a sumptuous breakfast on the Stimela Star before you arrive in the heart of the bush. Transportation awaits to whisk you away to Bomani Safari Camp, which is located near the lush green forest, but yet remains close to the savannah area of Ndoma. After lunch, join an exploration tour of the park. Enjoy dinner in the camp.

Day 12, 13 & 14: 

Today offers a range of activities. Choose between a classic early morning game drive, a guided mountain bike tour, a walk with rangers, or join one of the project workers for a tour of the “water pump”– where water for elephants is provided and monitored. There is also the opportunity to meet and speak with people living in the villages surrounding the park about their connection with the park’s animals.  The game drives are operated in open jeeps with only your own group members in them. Look for lion, buffalo, kudu, giraffe, zebra, and a stunning number of birds. Crocodiles often guard the water holes making it difficult for other species to safely drink.

An important reminder: Night falls quickly in the bush. Everyone needs to return to the lodge before dark.

Day 15: 

After an inspiring stay in the bush, it’s back to reality. The transfer to the airport is a four to five hour drive and in order to catch the afternoon flight, it is necessary to leave the camp early in the morning. The flight will return you to Johannesburg where you will connect with your flight home.
