Whether you’re looking for basic, specialty, rebreather, or pro courses, Jupiter Dive Center’s staff of highly trained, professional instructors is ready to make sure you’re prepared to make the most of your underwater adventures!

Where should I start?

Diver with reel underwater

The answer to this question depends on your interests and current level of experience, but if your first foray into the water has left you thirsting for more, you can’t go wrong by signing up for an advanced scuba certification. This is the course that fine-tunes your skills and then expands them allowing you to explore more ocean. It’s also tailored to your interests!

Each class includes instruction on deep diving and underwater navigational skills, but then you can discuss the other options available with your instructor.  Some of the areas you may want to consider include boat diving, underwater photography, fish identification, night diving, wreck diving, and more!

What’s the most popular specialty certification?

Easy question. The nitrox – enriched air certification is the most popular specialty certification available. And if you’re wondering why, it’s because using enriched air allows you to extend your no-decompression time and remain underwater. If that wasn’t enough, it also shortens your topside surface interval. And if you think you’re too busy to take a course, think again! The course is online, and no dives are required—when you’ve finished the online portion, you pop into our shop and work with an instructor to demonstrate your ability to analyze tanks and confirm you understand depth limitations. You can dive with nitrox on your very next dive!

If I only improve one skill…

The skill that vexes the most divers is buoyancy—and until that’s mastered, every other aspect of diving is harder than it needs to be. Remember, the amount of weight you need changes with wetsuits, fresh or salt water, the size and composition of your tanks, your own weight fluctuations, and even how you breathe. You probably knew that where you place your weights can greatly affect your trim, but did you know your fins can too? Once that’s all dialed in, though, you’ll see immediate results that include better air consumption, safer ascents, and less likelihood you’ll bounce across the reef and damage the ecosystem you’re there to enjoy. Buoyancy is also a necessary skill if you are interested in pursuing other specialties—especially photography and wreck diving.

Anything I should know about diving the Palm Beaches?

Two things actually: dives off our coasts are deep and all our charters are drift dives. If you’re accustomed to needing to navigate back to a boat, you’re in for a treat with drift diving. Not only does the current do most of the work as it propels you across the reef, but it also means that the boat will come to you!

Of critical note, you’ll also learn how to properly deploy a surface marker buoy, maintain contact with your buddy, and how to safely get on and off the boat.

What if I want to stay underwater even longer?

Two rebreather divers in a wreck

There are a couple of options—and they’re technical. Tech Diving can take your diving deeper and can extend your bottom times. You may also want to consider swapping out your tanks for a rebreather.

If you’ve ever been *this close* to getting the perfect underwater photograph, you know how skittish marine life is when they hear or get caught up in the bubbles from your regulator. Holding your breath is a no-no, but there’s a safe alternative; dive using a rebreather.

Closed-circuit rebreathers (CCR) recycle the air you breathe through a series of filters, and while the rewards are definitely worth it, it requires a new skill set.

Rebreathers used to be only for elite or commercial divers who could afford the equipment, but over the past several years, rebreathers for recreational use have become a popular alternative to tanks. In turn, that’s made rebreathers more affordable and easier to travel with.

Rebreathers literally change how you interact with marine and experience the underwater realm. Interested? Contact our shop for more details!

I’m thinking of going pro…

Good for you! It’s a fantastic community with tons of options. You’ll want to make sure you have your rescue diver certification first. Not only will you learn what to do in an emergency, but you’ll also recognize how to stop one before it begins! This challenging course is also an incredible amount of fun. Your buddies will thank you. Better yet—take this course with them!

The next step—and the first professional rating—is earning your divemaster certification. Divemasters help other divers hone their skills, assist instructors with classes, and apply advanced dive theory knowledge to prevent and solve problems. As a dive professional, you’ll have the credentials needed to work anywhere across the globe!
