Search & Recovery Diver
We’ve all done it; returned to the boat and suddenly realized that our flashlight, reel, weight pocket or favorite thingamajig is somewhere below us. What to do? Find it! Join Jupiter Dive Center and earn your Search and Recovery Diver certification. It’s a useful skill and a fun challenge!
The Fun Part
Anyone who has ever found something they’ve lost knows that there is a certain thrill in the recovery. Now imagine searching for something underwater. But finding an item isn’t very helpful unless you also know how to bring it safely to the surface. Add in current and a shifting terrain, and locating an item seems an impossible task. But it’s not. Are you up to the challenge? Of course you are!
What to Expect
Students will refresh their compass skills, learn how to estimate distances, and understand how to avoid hazards in limited visibility. Divers will also learn the benefits of several search techniques and which patterns are best suited to the particular search and terrain. Once an item has been located, divers will learn how to best salvage it by considering the depth, size, and weight of the item, and then employing the appropriate lift bag to bring it to the surface safely.
What Do You Need?
Due to the nature of the instruction, divers will need a reel and lift bag. All Jupiter Dive Center charters are drift dives and each diver must have their own surface marker buoy and a timing device. Enriched Air certification is recommended, but not required.
