Not all dives end with the boat coming to pick you up; sometimes you have to get back to the boat. Do you know how? Join Jupiter Dive Center and learn how to set a heading, use natural landmarks, and improve your diving skills while earning an Underwater Navigator certification!
The Fun Part
Some divers always seem to know just how to find their way to any location. They don’t spend valuable minutes looking for the reef, nor do they have to surface to reorient. With a bit of practice, that can be you! Good navigation skills allow you to make the most of your dives—and gives you the confidence to relax and enjoy your time underwater.
What to Expect
Proper navigation techniques require a basic understanding of the aquatic environment. Water distorts divers’ perceptions, and tides and currents can propel them to new locations. Students will learn how to use natural navigation as well as their compass. An important part of navigation is the ability to determine distances, and divers will perform kick cycles to help them improve their estimations.
