The perfect vacation is tricky to plan—especially when not everyone agrees on the definition of perfect. This can be especially true when planning a dive vacation, as so many destinations only cater to divers. Fortunately, Jupiter, Florida is a place where scuba divers can enjoy a guilt-free holiday knowing that there are plenty of non-diving activities to keep their partner and family happy—and Jupiter Dive Center is here to help.
First the diving
Florida is the only state where you can dive coral reefs without heading into the Caribbean. There are plenty of colorful fish on the reefs and larger marine animals out in the blue. Want to wreck dive? How about three—in one dive—on our Wreck Trek!
The Gulf Stream’s close proximity to shore means all our charters are drift dives. The advantage? You can cover more area with less exertion on each dive, and the boat comes to you after you surface! Follow our in-water guide or explore on your own.
Every season offers a new reason to visit. Lemon sharks visit in January, sea turtles start nesting in the spring, goliath groupers aggregate in the late summer, and rays and other sharks hang out throughout the year—oh yeah, and we even see the occasional sawfish!
Now that you know the diving is taken care of, let’s take a look at everything else…We’ll start with a little bit about logistics. Jupiter is about a half-hour away from Palm Beach International Airport and is easily accessible by major highways. There is lodging to fit any budget, restaurants to suit any taste, and activities to satisfy any whim. So, let’s *ahem* dive in, shall we?.
A beach visit is a must for anyone who visits Florida and one of the most famous is Blowing Rocks Preserve on Jupiter Island. Home of the Nature Conservancy, not only can you enjoy the famed rocks that spout water into the air at certain tide times, but also visit the Hawley Education Center for a bit of history about the area.
Jupiter area beaches stretch for miles, and if you head south to Juno Beach, you’ll find ample parking, plenty of facilities, and the Loggerhead Marinelife Center. Enjoy daily tours or wander on your own. This sea turtle rehabilitation center, museum, and gift shop has something for everyone—including plenty of live sea turtles to see!
Hiking and Biking and Paddling—oh my!
Continuing the outdoor theme, there are plenty of hiking, horse-riding, mountain bike (minus the mountains, of course), kayak, and standup paddle board options. Jump start your activities at Jonathan Dickinson State Park , and Blueline Surf & Paddle.
The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse
The Eastern Seaboard isn’t the only place to visit a lighthouse. Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse has been shining a light on Jupiter’s maritime history and keeping the intracoastal waterway safe since it was relighted in 1866. Enjoy the sprawling grounds and panoramic view from the top!
Florida is a shopping Mecca. From the high-end boutiques in the Garden’s Mall to hand-crafted beach finds in downtown Stuart, there are plenty of places to find the perfect souvenir (and for the diver, Jupiter Dive Center has a full retail shop).
A Taste of Florida
We’ll admit it, we may be a bit biased on this next recommendation, but if you want to unwind after a day of fun, head toward The Dive Bar Restaurant for fabulous sushi, refreshing cocktails, and waterfront views. Looking for something a bit more casual? Situated on the inlet, the Square Grouper Tiki Bar is a perennial favorite for tropical drinks, bar eats and live music. (Fun fact: Alan Jackson and Jimmy Buffett filmed the music video “It’s Five O’clock Somewhere” on its stage!) You must be 21 years and older to visit. Plenty of other restaurants are within minutes, including U-Tiki, Food Shack (don’t let the strip mall fool you, this is artsy, healthy, and has a huge local following), and more!
Whether you dive or just want to soak up some sun, Jupiter, Florida is a premier vacation location. Oh, and we would be remiss if we didn’t share that we offer dive certification courses so you can take advantage of all Jupiter has to offer.
