You Want the Hydros Pro 2 BCD – Jupiter Dive Center Has It!
Every industry has its trade shows to preview new equipment and upcoming events, and the dive industry goes to DEMA. So, what was one of the buzziest pieces of new equipment? The Scubapro Hydros Pro 2 buoyancy compensator device and Jupiter Dive Center are among the first to carry it!
The Legacy
In 2019, Scubapro introduced the award-winning Hydros Pro BCD, and it quickly became the go-to choice for avid divers and industry professionals.
The updated 2026 Hydros Pro 2 model builds on that legacy by increasing comfort, convenience, and most importantly, performance, all while staying true to its streamlined, modular design that makes it ideal for travel! It’s also available with a Balanced Power Inflator or an Alternate Inflator Regulator (AIR2).
The Innovations
The first thing you’ll notice is the new monorail weight system. Weight pockets slide onto the rail and securely lock into place. To remove, grasp the large D-handle and pull. It’s easy, secure, and streamlined. The BCD comes with standard-sized weight pockets. A mini-sized pocket is available separately. Both sizes are available in eight colors, offering plenty of choices to match your kit.
Articulated straps are another improvement. This innovation allows the shoulder strap system to lock open, creating plenty of space to slide your arms through when donning the BCD. Once on, the straps lower and can be pressed flat, making it easier to pack (just one aspect of why it’s a great travel BCD!).
The Tri-bungee retraction system with two-stage inflation provides even air distribution and higher lift capacity at the surface. Since all the dives around Jupiter are drift dives, this makes waiting for the boat to come around is much more comfortable.
Everyone seems to want to shed weight in the New Year, and the Hydros can help! Okay, this one is tongue in cheek, but the innovation is real. You’ll need less weight with this BCD as it’s about as close as you can come to being neutrally buoyant.
Even the tank strap has been redesigned to make swapping tanks easy and fast, even if you’re changing the size of the tank!
The Hydros Pro 2 is Fully Customizable
From color choices to accessories, this BCD is what you want it to be.
The multi-mount system allows for further customization with multiple mounting points and D-rings that accommodate optional accessory plates (sold separately) to attach knives, lights, pockets, SMBs, and more.
The Hydros Pro 2 is Designed to Travel
Divers love to travel, and the Hydros Pro 2 makes it a lot easier. The design enables the shoulder and waist straps to fold flat within the folded wings, making it easy to pack. And the back plate is 25% lighter than its predecessor’s and provides a body-contoured shape, soft padding, and handles located on both the top and bottom to make lifting and hanging your gear easier.
Speaking of lighter, the bladder is constructed from “Instant Dry Technology” materials, which shed water and allow it to dry almost instantly, which makes packing for the return trip back much more hassle-free. After all, no one likes baggage overweight fees.

January Diving!
Whether you have a new BCD or not, January is a great time to go diving in Jupiter, Florida, it’s lemon shark season! Underwater researchers and photographers come from all over the world to see Florida’s unique concentration of lemon sharks.
Why lemon sharks choose this area isn’t fully understood, but typically in January, the lemons arrive in groups and congregate in one or two main areas. But hurry, they tend to be gone again by the middle of March!
You’ll know a lemon shark by their pale yellow-brown hue.
A mature lemon typically measures in at 10.5 feet by age twelve, and its average age is twenty-seven plus years. They feed on bony fishes, crustaceans, mollusks, rays, small sharks, and the occasional seabird.
If encountering a large marine animal makes you nervous, consider taking a Shark Specialty course. This one-day course starts in the classroom, where a dive instructor discusses the myths (of which there are many) and realities (which have nothing to do with a certain blockbuster movie that made us all afraid to get into the water) regarding sharks.
