Your New Underwater Camera is as Close as Your Smartphone!

Capture a memory. Record an amazing wreck. Memorialize a bucket list dive. All it takes is a camera and a bit of know-how.

One of our most popular classes, Digital Underwater Photography will teach you the know-how, but did you realize you already own a camera that takes awesome underwater photos?

Even better, Jupiter Dive Center carries the Sealife SportDiver Ultra Underwater Housing you’ll need to ensure your smartphone is ready to photograph your next adventure!

Sealife, a highly respected name in underwater cameras, lights, and accessories, established itself in the early 1990s to offer divers a fun and uncomplicated way to capture underwater memories.

They’ve succeeded by providing innovative and quality equipment. They also recognized that while a specialty underwater camera might be nice, it certainly wasn’t necessary when most divers already own a smartphone.

While some smartphones can survive a dunk in the water, handling the pressure of depth requires housing—just like most cameras need to survive the pressure.

Enter the Sealife SportDiver Ultra Underwater Housing for smartphones. Compact and lightweight, this housing allows divers to take photos and videos down to 130 feet!

For those new to camera housings, a housing does more than offer a waterproof environment for your device. It also mitigates the pressure and offers additional protection both above and below the water. The heavy-duty SportDiver housing is constructed of polycarbonate, stainless steel, aluminum and optical grade glass. But despite being so brawny, it weighs less than 1.78 pounds (a mere flyweight in the housing department). This makes it ideal for travel and depending on the model it’s encasing, offers near-neutral buoyancy.

So which smartphones work with the housing? Most Android models—including larger Samsung S Series Ultra models are compatible, as are Google’s Pixel range, and all iPhones from iPhone 8 through 16 Pro Max!

One of the things you’ll review in a digital Underwater Photography class is how quickly light is absorbed by salt water. Water is 800 times denser than air, and in a nutshell, the deeper you go, the darker it gets. Red is the first color to fade away, then oranges, and yellows, which leaves most recreational divers in an environment full of greens and blues. Deeper, the greens will disappear, then the blues until no color remains at all.

That’s where dive lights come in. It’s always a good idea to carry a dive light with you on every dive. And it’s mandatory to have more than one if doing specialty dives such as a wreck or night dives.

You’ll also find photographers relying on lights to reinfuse their photos with color. Lucky for you, the SportDiver Ultra Pro 2500 makes it easy.

The Ultra Pro set is a combination of the housing and an arm with a light. The housing is the same heavy-duty construction mentioned earlier. The light is a powerful 2,500-lumen Sea Dragon 2500 photo-video light that can be adjusted to three different brightness levels. It offers an underwater-friendly color temperature that will enliven all your underwater memories.

The light’s 120-degree beam is wide enough to cover your smartphone’s wide-angle lens--and the housing is adaptable in the event you ever want to add a second light to your kit.

Once you start using it, you’ll appreciate things you never thought about with an underwater camera—like how easy it is to hold and use underwater—even while wearing gloves.

There is a large shutter lever and rear control buttons. Then there’s the app….

Purchase of the SportDiver Ultra housing includes the free SportDiver app. We’re happy to say there aren’t any ads or in-app purchases, just a way to easily make the most of your phone’s camera technology.

Whether you have a dedicated underwater camera or are using your smartphone with the SportDiver housing, enrolling in Jupiter Dive Center’s digital underwater photography specialty course is a shortcut to taking great photos.

This course teaches how to work with ambient and artificial lighting, how to frame your subject, and the importance of buoyancy control to ensure you get the shot you want!
